Bail Extended For Former Remand Centre Officers

Two former remand centre officers had their bail extended by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

It is alleged that the two had raped a female Corrections officer on September 25, 2015, at the Korovou Corrections compound.

The matter was called before Judge Justice Vincent Perera.

State lawyer Jullen Fatiaki informed the court that there were no confessions by the accused and that they would not be relying on the caution interview.

Justice Perera told accused Meli Vatureba to find a lawyer that could appear for his case.

He passed this comment after Vatureba told the court that his lawyer, Babra Malimali, was not present.

The other accused, Nasoni Raburau, was represented by defence lawyer, Lavinia David.

The trial is set from August 28 to September 1.

The case has been adjourned to June 26, for a pre-trial conference.
