Golden Throw For Dad- Cavuilati

While most athletes would celebrate their gold medal win with their friends, Ratu Mua Cavuilati rushed back to the hospital to spend time with his father, Ratu Vuniani Cavuilati.

The 19-year-old Wailevu, Verata lad won the first gold medal for Ratu Kadavulevu School in the senior boys Shot Put, throwing 13:06m.

Cavuilati stayed focus during his entire event despite knowing his father was in the hospital.

He thanked the Lord for guiding him and strengthening him.

“I feel so excited winning this gold medal, I really did not expect to win and I just want to thank the Lord and dedicate this medal to my dad and to the school,” Cavuilati said.

“I am so blessed to have this opportunity to get gold even though I only trained for two days before the Coke Games.

“I missed out on training for two weeks because my dad was in the hospital and I had to go and look after him.

“He desperately needed me, the doctors are not sure what is wrong with him but they say that he only has a 20 per cent chance of surviving.

“It was not easy competing knowing he is in the hospital, but I know I had the Lord on my side and with him anything is possible.

“I think my dad being in hospital has encouraged me to give my best and I am glad I won this for him and I am going to spend every minute with him because I don’t know if this will be the last time I will see him.

Finishing in second place was Mosese Bulivorovoro of Tavua College who threw 12:90m and third Josua Serukilagi with 12:80m.
