Sauvakacolo Wins Gold For Grammar

Suva Grammar School won their first gold in the intermediate girls Triple Jump on day one of the Coca Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva yesterday.
Fane Sauvakacolo jumped a distance of 11:08m, ahead of Alesi Bulisala of Adi Cakobau School who came second on 10:99m and Senimili Vakamino, third with 10:80m.
This is the first time Sauvakacolo took part in the triple jump event and she was over the moon about winning a gold medal.
Sauvakacolo was in ACS before switching to Suva Grammar last year and was excited to compete against her former school.
“I am honestly so relieved and excited that I took out the triple jump event even though it was my first time taking part in it,” Sauvakacolo said.
“The competition has been really tough, I was nervous because it was my first time taking part and I was also competing with girls from my former school.
“The pressure was definitely there to win and I just set out to do my best and I did, I love triple jump now and I intend to improve and do even better next year.”
With one event down, Sauvakacolo said it’s a weigh off her shoulders and now can focus on her 400m event.
“I am so glad that my first event has finished, this means I can solely concentrate on the 400m because winning another medal would be the icing on the cake,” she said.
“Competitions was tough and I am excited about day two, I am hoping that I will do my best to win another medal.”
