Requests made by vegetable farmers in Savusavu market will be looked into says Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Viam Pillay.

Mr Pillay visted farmers at Belego Settlement, outside Savusavu Town, on Wednesday.

Belego District advisory officer Dinesh Ram told Mr Pillay during a talanoa session after the tour that there were 24 farmers planting fruits and vegetables in about 100 acres of land.

The farm area damaged during Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“Currently we are stricken by the unpredictable weather condition as you saw some insects are destroying vegetables in our farm,” Mr Ram said.

“We are the biggest supplier of vegetables and fruits to Savusavu market for more than 20 years and we have to make sure that we continue with the supply.

“We are in great need of farm equipment and fertilisers. And we humbly request for proper drainage work around the farm.”

Mr Pillay assured them that he will look into their requests.
