CHILDREN FOOTBALL IN TAVEUNI

The Fiji Football Association is holding its first ever development centre competition in Taveuni today.

Fiji FA technical director Ravinesh Kumar said this is the first time such competition would be happening in the island.

‘Five primary schools will be participating in the one-day competition,” Kumar said.

He also confirmed that the competition would incorporate two grades.

“We will have under- 12 and under-14 grades from our five development centres.

“Some schools will be bringing in two teams, one in each grade, as there is a lot of interest here.”

The former Fijian U20 coach said Fiji FA and the participating schools have prepared well for the first-ever competition.

“Our northern development centre staff members are in Taveuni and assisting the coaches in making the competition the best it can be for our young people.”

Taveuni Football Association secretary Shiven Chand said it would be a great day for the people of Taveuni.

He said there was a lot of interest shown by the children and their parents as well.

“I must thank the teachers and parents for their support,” he said.

The competition is staged at the Holy Cross grounds.
