Top Primary Schools Receive Excellence Awards

Primary schools that produced exceptional academic results last year were recognised for their effort by the Ministry of Education.

The school heads received the Minister’s Excellence Award for Achieving Academic Excellence in Year Six and Year Eight Examinations at Lautoka on Thursday night.

Suva recipient, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Primary School (MGM) received $7500 ($3500 for Year Six and $4000 for Year Eight).

School head teacher Chandra Kumar said: “I dedicate this award to the management of MGM Primary School, teachers and the students for their hard work.

“I am extremely thrilled and did not expect to win these awards. We are really committed towards education excellence and we always aim to be at the top.”

In her second year in charge Ms Kumar said all the teachers and students even parents were very focused towards education.

“There is competition and we do not want our school to do down so there is monitoring of lessons, exercise books, homework and we are very particular with the academic performance of the children.

“We have already started with extra classes in the week and everybody is geared and focused about getting education excellence again this year,” she said.
