Robust Nadroga first five eight Peceli Nacebe scored a hat-trick of tries as defending Skipper Cup champions Nadroga thumped Jack’s Nadi 47-22 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

What happened: The visitors dominated play in the first 15 minutes with Nadroga being penalised on numerous times in the break down. Nadi fullback Nemani Driu opened the scores when he was successful with a penalty.

Then 10 minutes later Nadi first five eight Livai Waqa kicked a penalty but fell short of the sticks and charging on was winger Eparama Naivalu who scooped up the ball to score under the post for a 10-0 lead.

Then minutes later Nadi captain Samuela Saqiwa further extended the lead to 17-0 with a try that was converted by Driu.

Nadroga immediately hit back and within a space of five minutes ran in tries to prop Peceli Ratuibau, Nacebe and winger Aporosa Tabulawaki.

Half time: Nadroga 19- 17 Nadi

In the second spell Nadi were defending for most of the time and Nadroga continued on the onslaught with Nacebe and Eremasi Radrodro running two tries each while Apisalome Waqatabu dotted down the final try.

Big plays: Peni Naruma, Apenisa Nasoro and Samuela Saqiwa toiled hard for Nadi but all their efforts were in vain as Nadroga proved too strong for them.

Star turn: Nacebe combined well with Radrodro as they kept Nadi at bay.

Comments: Nadroga captain Manoa Tamaya said: “We had a slow start to the game but the new boys played well. We made mistakes and it’s important for us to fix it up.”

Nadi captain Samuela Saqiwa said: “We had a short time to prepare but the boys played well. We had started well but cannot maintain the rhythm and we will have to work hard for the next match.”
