National Farmers Union AGM Set For May 2nd

The National Farmers Union (NFU) will be having its annual general meeting on May 2 at the Labasa Civic Centre.
This was confirmed by NFU president Surendra Lal.
He said the Fiji Labour Party leader and NFU general secretary Mahendra Chaudhry would be present.
“We are requesting all the farmers to be present at the AGM as we will be discussing major nine issues as per resolutions,” Mr Lal said.
The nine issues are:
- $20 cane payment to be paid before the start of the 2017 harvest season
- $100 per tonne cane price to be guaranteed by the Government
- The removal of the road levy from trucks and trailers which cart cane
- All vehicles registered under the name of a grower are exempted from road levy
- Cane access road funding to be monitored by Sugar Cane Growers Council and FSC in collaboration with road committees.
- $10 per bag fertiliser subsidy to be reinstated by Labasa Cane Producers Association
- Call to convene election of Sugar Cane Growers Council
- Call to suspend Sugar Bills (19/2016 and 20/2016)
- Call to reinstate deduction of NFU subs from cane proceeds.
The AGM will start 10am.
