The Batinikama Harbour Light football team beat Wailevu’s Babasiga Lionz 2-1 during the Labasa local league competition at Subrail Park yesterday.

What happened: Batinikama applied pressure from the first whistle and did not allow their opponents to settle down.

This paid dividend in the 14th minute when Andrew Chand slotted in the first goal. The Lionz fought hard in trying to score the equaliser but were held at bay.

Just before halftime Harbour Light’s Feroz Khan extended their lead to 2-0.

The Lionz never gave up and pulled back in the 51st minute through a Shavneel Narayan strike.

Comments: Batinikama Harbour Light coach/manager Yunus Ali said: “I’m happy with the team’s performance and we are now working towards improving our fitness for the next game.”

Wailevu Babasiga Lionz manager Ronish Rahul said: “This is our first game and we need to improve our performance in terms of speed, fitness and defence.”
