Lautoka defender cum striker Siotame Kubu scored a hat-trick against Jack’s Nadi side as they romped to a 4-2 win in their Vodafone Premier League derby at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

What happened: The Blues found their rhythm in the 25th minute when Kubu’s header caught Nadi goalkeeper Vereti Dickson napping. Nadi fought back and in the 38th minute Josevata Dugucagi sneaked past the Blues defenders to slot in the equaliser. The game see-sawed and during the dying stages Kubu struck again with a powerful header that found the back of the net.

Half-time: Lautoka 2–1 Nadi

In the 46th minute from a Liesari Qalica corner kick, Kubu was on target with another header that easily beat Dickson to extend their lead to 3-1.

Nadi came out strongly with the introduction of striker Rusiate Matererega to partner Napolioni Qasevakatini. The move paid dividend when a Qasevakatini flick saw Matererega slammed in their second goal

Trailing 3-2 Nadi tried hard to score the equaliser but against the run of play Kubu was fouled in the penalty box by Nadi defender Waisake Tabucava, which saw referee Avinesh Narayan award a penalty. Dave Radrigai did not waste any time to slot home the winner.

Big play: Qalica, Radrigai and Kavaia Rawaqa controlled the game for Lautoka as they were able to hold the Nadi strikers at bay

Star Turn: Kubu was on fire for the Blues in his new position.

Comments: Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy said: “We are happy with the three points but however we lost possession when they pressured us. Our midfielders need to work on their fitness.”

Nadi manager Kamlesh Sami said: “Lautoka was the better side. The boys did not stick to the game plan and allowed two easy goals. “We will work out a strategy on how to tackle Ba next week.”
