The Rewa football team held Ba to a 1-1 draw in the Vodafone Premier League clash the Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

What happened: Both teams fielded experienced players as they went out trying to register a win. Ba with midfielder Malakai Tiwa and Meli Codro dictating play were able to penetrate the Rewa defence on numerous occasions but their strikers failed to find the net. But for Rewa it was Iosefo Verevou, Epeli Saukuru and Tevita Waranivalu that kept them in the game when they were trailing 1-0.

In the 18th minute, Ba got a penalty after a foul and striker Saula Waqa made no mistake with his spot kick as they led 1-0. This fired-up the hosts as they went all out looking for an equaliser and it was Saukuru who scored in the 34th minute.

Halftime: Rewa 1-1 Ba

Star Turn: Saukuru was the star player in the match. He scored the crucial goal for Rewa as they escaped with a 1-1 draw

Big play: The Rewa defenders really stood out. Veteran defender Lorima Dau led by example from the last man down position and marshaled them well. They were able to shut down the Ba strikers who were aggressive on attack.

Comments: Ba coach Imdad Ali said: “It was a good game and we are happy with the outcome.”

Rewa assistant coach Tagi Vonolagi said: “The players did their best but fatigue was one of the factors that affected our game probably because they didn’t have much rest after last Friday’s match.”
