The third sitting of Parliament for this year begins today.

Government Whip, Ashneel Sudhakar, said the Government members looked forward to this week’s sitting as pending issues from the previous sitting were expected to be discussed.

However, when questioned on Bills to be tabled, Mr Sudhakar said that would be decided by the business committee.

He said the last Parliament sitting was fruitful where Bills were passed and issues thoroughly discussed.

The Bills that were submitted in last month’s Parliament Sitting were: the Income Tax Bill 2017; Employment Relations Bill 2017; Electricity Bill 2017; and the Land Transport Amendment Bill 2017.

As the chair on Public Accounts Committee, Mr Sudhakar said that he would table the reports before Parliament on Thursday.

He said that the reports tabled would include the annual reports of Government commercial companies.

“There are only two Parliament sittings left and we are expected to discuss pending issues in these sittings,” he said.

Mr Sudhakar is also the Standing Committee chair on Justice, Law and Human Rights.

He said the report on the 2014 Auditor General reports would be made public once it was tabled before Parliament.

“We are still scrutinising the report and once that is done, a report will be made which is then submitted to Parliament,” Mr Sudhakar said.
