Bail extended for bus driver charged with rape
A 34-year-old bus driver charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl had his bail extended yesterday.
The matter was called before Judge Justice Riyaaz Hamza at the High Court in Suva.
State lawyer Kimberley Semisi told the court that she was yet to receive a response for the proposed agreed facts. She further said there were no admissions in the caution interview.
Defence lawyer Jiten Reddy said he would send his response by today.
It is alleged that Sanjay Naidu on November 12, 2016, at Nasinu had unlawful carnal knowledge with a 12-year-old girl.
The alleged offence took place while Naidu was on his last trip and he committed the offence at one of the bus stops along Princes Road. The girl had boarded the bus from Nausori and had fell asleep, missing her stop, Police said.
The case has been adjourned to May 4 for mention. Edited by Naisa Koroi
