The body of a 70-year-old male was found in his Navaqiqi, Savusavu, home yesterday morning.

It was identified by a team of Police officers who had to intervene after complaints of a foul smell coming from his home.

It is understood that the foul smell had been emanating from the home for almost a week.

In an interview, one of the residents who wished to remain anonymous said: “The man’s partner has been out for almost a week and he was left to his own demise.

“One of his caretakers came for his routine check and found his body inside his home.”

It is also understood that a call for the Police was made, which summoned a team from the Savusavu Police Station who had to come in wearing masks.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the Police was yet to ascertain the cause of death as they were waiting for the post-mortem results.

“The victim was staying alone and neighbours had alerted Police,” Ms Naisoro said.

“We are not going to speculate on the case and wait for the necessary process of investigation to be carried out.”
