Wardens Gold are on track in their campaign to defend  the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre sponsored-Martintar Sevens tournament at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

The side began their campaign with a blast having won all their pool matches convincingly.

The Sailosi Naiteqe Jnr coached-side thrashed Nadi Police 36-0, pipped Vuda 7-0 before thumping Malolo Hewa 59-0.

Bolstering the side was former Natabua High School’s star 400m runner and France-based rugby player Batinisavu Uluiyata, who had an outstanding day.

The side are laced with players like Simione Cece, Sevuloni Tawake, Sevuloni Rakula and Rusiate Tadulala.

Naiteqe said they came into the competition as underdogs.

“I know there are a lot of big teams like Tabadamu and Westfield, we are coming in as underdog as we have missed so many big tournaments and have decided to come to this one since we won last year,” the former Vodafone Fijian 7s star forward said.

“So I told them lets show them that we can also get that title again. We know the boys are working hard to defend the title again, nothing is impossible for these guys. We know we can still win it back.”

He also said the sudden change in weather had an impact on their preparation.

“We struggled a bit with the weather in Suva. It’s a big change for the boys and we will try and adapt ourselves from here and by tomorrow we will ready for another day.”

Teams to play in today’s elimination round are Wardens Gold, Tabadamu, Yasawa, McDonald’s Saunaka, Westfield Tokatoka, First Light Taveuni and Police.
