Waves Fiji Offers Something Unique

Formed in January last year, they are the new band in town called “Waves Fiji” and one to look out for this year.
Band member, William Driver said the name “Waves” came about only because they didn’t have a name at that time when they formed and was trying to think of something unique.
“I’ve always wanted to form a band of my own and there were so many bands out there so I wanted to start acoustic,” said the Taveuni man.
The band’s genres include RnB, pop, country, Fijian, and soul and performing live acoustic helps the three band members with their guitar and vocal skills.
“We’ve done original songs and one of them which is acoustic we will be recording and launching soon,” said William.
For Naomi Kaloumaira, 19, who joined late last year said she joined through the invitation of band member, Vasiti.
“Being part of the band will help me develop my vocals and music skills and to get the feel on how to perform on stage and avoid my stage fright,” said the Lomaiviti lass.
Naomi’s love for music comes from her family especially from her dad who is very musical.
For other band member, Vasiti Nakautoga, 19, being part of the band is basically her love for music and getting as much experience and exposure as possible. All three members of the band write songs and all play the guitar as well.
Both Naomi and Vasiti are part of the Pasifika Voices choir at the University of the South Pacific. They recently were part of the successful and epic Broadway in Fiji show staged last week Thursday (April 13) at the University of the South Pacific.
You can catch the “Waves Fiji” band performing every Friday at 6.30pm at the Governor’s Museum Themed Restaurant at Knolly Street in Suva.
