Retirement age
Shankar Kavinesh,
Suva
It’s a pleasure to note that when civil servants retire at the age of 55 it diverts resources to the young generation in the form of jobs. However, the teachers, I believe, become victims of this phenomenon. Why is it that those who work for the Government, especially the ones in Parliament, are permitted to take a seat beyond the billed legislative retirement age that is 55?
Therefore I believe that teachers should not be retiring at 55 because they help the economy build stronger foundation for upcoming years in terms of skills and knowledge.
