The Jack’s Nadi football team proved their worth when they beat favourites Ba 1-0 during their Vodafone Premier League showdown at Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

The Napolioni Qasevakatini captained- Nadi side put on a gutsy performance as they held the strong Ba outfit at bay.

The Jetsetters were back to full strength as they utilised the services of Ame Votoniu, Luke Rawadamu, Rusiate Matererega,  William Valentine and Josefata Dugucagi.

What happened: After a scoreless first half the hosts upped the tempo in the second half as they looked to score the winning goal. In the 65th minute, continuous pressure saw striker Dugucagi broke through the Ba defence to tap in their lone goal.

Ba never gave up as they fought back trying to score the equaliser. Led by captain Kiniviliame Naika, Manasa Nawakula,Praneel Naidu, Laisenia Raura and Avinesh Waran Suwamy, they came close to scoring a number of times but the Nadi defence held on to the final whistle.

Comment: Nadi football manager Kamlesh Sami said: “The boys played their hearts out and this was what we had expected from them. In the first half we were playing better than them so we told the boys to keep playing attacking football.”

Ba coach Imdad Ali said:

“The boys did not perform to our expectation. We did train hard but it just did not turn out like we had expected. Poor finishing let us down and that was our biggest weakness today.”
