A fire that broke out in a building at Marks Street, Suva, has left a businessman shocked after it damaged certain parts of the building on Saturday night.

Deoji’s Footwear director Hemant Deoji informed SUN News that the fire would affect business for Mother’s Day sales and the school holidays.

Mr Deoji said the fire was unexpected and the shop would be closed for a week.

He said customers would be advised in due course when the shop would resume business and a statement from their Head Office would be released soon.

National Fire Authority firefighters managed to contain the fire.

The fire appeared to have started from the first floor of the building above Deoji’s Footwear, beside Rups Big Bear.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the NFA was expected to comment on the fire soon.

Meanwhile, the cause of a taxi falling off a cliff along Waimanu Road near the junction of Borron Road early yesterday morning is yet to be determined.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they were yet to receive a report on the matter.

Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred around 5am and the taxi driver was believed to have survived.
