A rape case from 2007 will come to its conclusion after a man will be sentenced on May 19.

Akuila Navuda was convicted of raping a 25-year-old woman on December 22, 2006.

The matter was called before Judge Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

The complainant was preparing tea for breakfast in the kitchen when Navuda covered her mouth, put a knife to her neck and dragged her to a plantation not far from the kitchen. At the plantation he made her lie down and placed the knife on her stomach and forcefully had intercourse with her.

It was stated in court that the complainant was training to be a nun.

Navuda’s trial was conducted at the Nausori Magistrates court before Magistrate Chaitanya Lakshman. Magistrate Lakshman convicted him, after which the State made an application for the matter to be transferred to the High Court in Suva for sentencing.
