Tuvalu Police Seeks Training Opportunities in Fiji

Tuvalu’s Commissioner of Police Luka Falefou yesterday paid a courtesy visit to Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, with discussions focused on revisiting links on Police co-operation between the two institutions.
Director International Relations Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ulaisi Ravula, said Commissioner Falefou was particularly interested in pursuing training opportunities for his officers knowing Fiji’s capabilities.
“The Commissioner himself underwent the Police recruit training here at the Academy back in 1989 and knowing first hand our capabilities to provide training opportunities, he is eager to see how Fiji and Tuvalu can formalise this working partnership.”
Both the Fijian and Tuvalu Foreign Ministries are already having discussions for a Memorandum of Understanding on Police Co-operation between the two institutions.
SSP Ravula said the visit was an opportunity for the Commissioner of Tuvalu to reiterate his institution’s willingness to pursue a long term working partnership.
“The Commissioner is here for a workshop conducted by the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and he wanted to at least meet our Commissioner so he could reaffirm their eagerness to pursue various means of Police co-operation through training as well as the exchange of police capabilities such as forensics.”
The co-operation between the two institutions is also being facilitated under the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police umbrella.
