The Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar reminded medical officers in Ovalau to utilise well the funding provided by Government for the Eastern division.

Ms Akbar advised to fully utilise the $200,000 that has been allocated to undertake the urgent maintenance and renovation works on the health facilities and hospitals in the eastern division.

Similar opportunities have been provided to all the other divisions to uplift the infrastructure development at the health facilities around Fiji.

She said this during the briefing with the senior medical officers in Levuka including the Divisional Medical Officer Eastern.

She was accompanied by the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for the Western Pacific Dr Shin Young-soo.

The delegation was briefed about the services provided at the Levuka Health Centre and the way forward to improve the services.

Apart from the health services, the centre also reaches out to rural communities in Levuka to provide them with awareness and outreach programmes on the non-communicable diseases and communicable diseases, women’s and children’s health and environmental health.
