A  former senior civil servant charged with abuse of office had his bail further extended by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

The case was called before Judge Justice Salesi Temo.

It is alleged that on July 26, 2011, Jovilisi Dau, being the manager of Rural Housing Unit at the Ministry of Provincial Development, abused his authority by directing a staff member under his supervision to sign a delivery docket to accept a supply of building materials.

It is alleged that the building materials were worth $184,000 and only $46,081.60 was supplied by Central City Hardware Ltd.

State prosecution lawyer Mehzabeen Khan said that the alleged loss was $137,918.40 worth of building materials and further stated that Central City Hardware Ltd confirmed supplying $184,000 worth of building materials.

Ms Khan said that according to the evidence the materials were not supplied.

The case has been adjourned to May 30, for a pre-trial conference.
