Shalishna Plans To Help Father In Commercial Farming

Shalishna Shankaran wanted to do something different and help her father. And so she did.
The 22-year-old yesterday graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture during a ceremony at the Novotel Suva Lami Bay Convention Centre.
“My father who has been a sugarcane farmer encouraged me to take up this course and I am thankful to have done something different,” said the woman from Vunivau, Labasa.
“The agriculture sector in Fiji is dominated mostly by males and I had planned to do something different being a female.”
She said her qualifications and field work would help her father when they begin their plans on commercial farming soon.
“I will help my dad in the coming days. I will be going back home with a lot of knowledge on the good farming practises,” Ms Shankaran said.
“I always had an interest in agriculture field. This sector is fast-growing in our developing country and brings with it new opportunities for all Fijians.”
She thanked her parents, family members, lecturers from the Fiji National University and the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme for giving her the opportunity to achieve her goals.
