The Tropical Disturbance (TD21F) was upgraded to a Tropical Depression yesterday morning.

TD21F has a central pressure of 1000 HPA was located 12.9 degrees South latitude and 170.9 degrees East longitude (near Vanuatu) or more than 800km northwest of Nadi yesterday afternoon.

It is currently slow moving and expected to remain to the far west of Fiji. TD21F does not pose direct threat to Fiji, however,  the associated trough, cloud and rain bands are anticipated to affect the group.

TD21F remains in a favourable environment for further intensification and has a moderate to high chance of developing into a Category 1 Tropical Cyclone within the next 24 hours while remaining close to Vanuatu.

It is expected to gradually intensify and may become a Category 2 cyclone early in the weekend. It is expected to initially move westwards and likely to make a landfall over Vanuatu and then move southwards.

Over Fiji, expect cloudy conditions with some showers and isolated thunderstorms over the eastern parts and interior of larger islands.

Elsewhere, cloudy with showers especially in the afternoon or evening. Isolated heavy falls can be expected in the weekend with an increasing chance of flash flooding in low lying areas can be anticipated.

The weather will be closely monitored and updates will be provided as any significant changes are observed.

The strong wind warning remains in force for all Fiji waters. Expect rough seas with east to southeast winds 20 to 25 knots, gusting to 30 knots.

All communities should remain prepared at all times, take necessary precautions when alerts, warnings and advisories are issued.
