The Fiji Revenue and Custom Authority through its Whistle Blower Policy recovered $5.9million in the past 12 months.

Which was indicative of a successful policy.

This was revealed by the Fiji Revenue and Custom Authority Director Corporate Services Fazrul Rahman.

Mr Rahman was chief guest at the 2017 Institute of Internal Auditors Fiji Annual Conference at the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay yesterday.

Mr Rahman said internal audit was critical for Fijian economic development.

Mr Rahman said: “FRCA has introduced this whistle blower policy that we have so far been able to rake in about $5.9 million of revenue in the last 12 months.

“The accounting fraternity in its dealings with FRCA normally has issues and in recent times we have picked up big audit cases.

“We have discovered situations where accountants were engaged in schemes with taxpayers as well to evade taxes.

“We want to put certain people behind bars, we are working on a number of audit cases.”
