Harmonising Pesticide Registration In The Pacific

The Pacific Community (SPC) together with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UN FAO) will host a regional workshop from May 8 to 12 on Harmonisation of Pesticide Registration in the Pacific Islands through a Pacific Regional Pesticide Registration Scheme (PRPRS).
The workshop will bring together pesticide registrars from 12 Pacific Island countries, together with technical experts from SPC and UN FAO and will be opened by Tonga’s chief executive officer for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests, Dr Viliami Manu. The PRPRS aims to streamline the process for pesticide registration across the Pacific to ensure there are linkages between activities at the bilateral level.
The workshop agenda will focus on two areas of output in relation to regional pesticide registration. The first being the PRPRS itself, and the second being a proposed memorandum of understanding with the intention of formalising a regionally binding agreement on pesticide registration, with SPC as depository and co-signatory.
