The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) has clarified that different services are available for different types of customers at banks. This includes no fee accounts.

However, RBF Financial Inclusion manager, Duri Buadromo said most frontline bank officers weren’t aware of these products.

Ms Buadromo made these comments while explaining the financial system, products and services during the Fiji Disabled People’s Federation (FDPF) bi-annual general meeting yesterday.

The meeting was held at the Fiji National Council of Disabled Persons complex at Brown Street in Suva.

A question was raised by a participant on bank fees which many who are dependent on social welfare could afford to pay. It was raised by federation member, Frank Duncan from Taveuni.

He said bank fees were high and requested if RBF could look into this.

Ms Buadromo, said: “There are banks which offer such services for the customers who require it, but their front desk staff must not be aware of the product.”

She said such requirement was brought about in 2010 when the banks were asked to set up micro finance desks.

RBF staff is currently working to consult the disabled society on the kind services they required to help them access bank services better.

Close to 40 members of the FDPF are participating in the three-day meeting. It ends today.
