Former national sevens rep Wiliam Ryder kicked a penalty in extra time for Nabouwalu to win the Bua Invitational Sevens final 17-14 against Combine Brothers yesterday.

The 33-year-old sealed the win after both teams were tied 14-14 at fulltime in the final at Bua Central College.

Nabouwalu coach Eparama Tukana dedicated the win to their sponsor Silver Waters for faithfully supporting them.

“We have a Nabouwalu club in the central division and the prize money will be use used for the development of the club and assist players’ needs,” Tukana said.

“It was a very tough competition and I would like to thank Ryder, Peni Tuteci and Samu Yalayala who have returned from Australia and Joe Bosoka who recently played for Manawi in New Zealand and other players.”

Combine Brothers coach Sainivalati Sokiveta said it was unfortunate they lost in the final.

“The team comprised local boys from Bua and they played well against a team which had experienced players,” Sokiveta said.

“If given more time surely we would have achieved our goal.”

Nabouwalu won $3,000.
