Sacrificing a great deal of time with her children in order to pursue a Bachelor of Nursing, has finally paid off for Metita Shona Teao.

“I am a single mother and my children are my world, but it was very hard to get through a day without them,” she said.

“I had missed seeing them and being with them, but I know that sacrifice was going to pay off one day. Today is the day.

Crediting the support of her parents, the 29-year-old stood proudly as one of the many graduates of the Fiji National University at FNU Nursing School Auditorium in Tamavua, Suva yesterday.

“I am so honoured and proud that I have amazing parents who have supported me and my children while I was studying,” she said.

Ms Teao said her degree was dedicated to her children.

She also said she had lived in New Zealand and previously graduated from a university there with a diploma to be a flight attendant.

“I have studied for flight attendant in Auckland and stayed there for four years.

“But my family wanted me to study nursing, which was their dream. I changed my profession for them because they have done a lot for me and my kids.

“Everything I have achieved, I owe it to my parents,” Ms Teao said.

Ms Teao’s mother, Hegalo Teao, 61, of Tokelau said during her daughter’s studies, her children had missed seeing their mother.
