A widow who received her renewed 99-year agriculture lease from Government yesterday said her family was grateful knowing that their future generations would have a piece of property to call home.

Mereoni Tora, 54 was in Ba yesterday with her son Petero Rokomatu to receive her lease from the Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Lands and Mineral Resources  Faiyaz Koya.

“We were first staying in Koroboya and moved to Namau in 1980, where we are now to begin sugar cane farming,” Ms Tora said.

Her husband, Viliame Ratoko died in 1980 and since then her three children have been toiling the sugar cane farm which produces around 150 tonnes of sugar cane.

“I am so happy and I thank the Government for what they have done. My heart is at peace now because I know my future generations have somewhere to stay,” she said.
