The Messengers of Peace Organisation works to empower young people to become vibrant leaders of change in their communities.

These were the words of Education Ministry Permanent Secretary Iowane Tiko at the closing of the Messengers of Peace Networking Workshop at the Trans International Hotel in Nadi on Friday night.

The workshop was attended by representatives of 26 districts from around the country.

“The organisation’s key initiative is to inspire people to initiative peace building and promote peace and harmony in the societies they serve, filtering down to the nation and reaching out to the world,” Mr Tiko said.

Through this workshop and training, the participants will further share their skill, ideas and knowledge within children, community members and also the public at large.

“This is the creation of ‘peace knowledge hub’, a feature which reflects the Sustainable Development Goal 16, which emphasises on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development,” Mr Tiko said.

He said the Fiji Scouts Association had always been at forefront of training and preparing youths for a positive change in the world.

By 2023, scouting will be that world’s leading education youth movement, enable 100 million young people to be active citizens creating positive change in their communities.

“Education ultimate outcome is peace and prosperity and while we are focusing on lifting the levels of education and its delivery in our nation, it is always hearting when we have organisation and individuals who partner with us in this movement,” said Mr Tiko.

“When we look at the global world we cannot comprehend the scenarios humans endure.”
