Surfing Test

The Cloudbreak Fiji Pro Trials was held last Wednesday out at Cloudbreak in 1.3m to 2m surf. The wind was a little strong making conditions very tricky.
Right from the start the heats were very close but Tevita Gukilau, Aca Raculo, Inia Nakalevu, Isei Tokovou and Lesi Navuwai showed that they would be serious contenders to claim the wildcard that was on offer to the winner.
Our youngest competitor Jimmy Tomeru was looking good early but unfortunately failed to make the quarter finals. Hannah Bennett our only female competitor was also showing great technique and finished equal 5th in a strong field of males.
It came down to the final between Tevita and Isei and with just 30 seconds on the clock Tevita found a wave and scored the necessary points to claim the victory and the wildcard spot into the Fiji Pro early June.
The first Fiji Open team will be heading to Biarritz France for the ISA World Open Titles in a couple of weeks. Tevita Gukilau, Lesi Navuwai and Che Slatter will be representing Fiji along with manager John Philp.
Competition will be extremely high as the best in the world from 36 countries along with several WCT surfers vying for the world title. The team needs your support though as they desperately seek funding and donations to assist them financially. Go to the FSA Facebook page and follow the links. Even the smallest amount could make the difference so please check it out.
