The Fijian Teachers Association (FTA) have come on board for the fourth year to sponsor the Best New Artist Category for this year’s Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) Music Awards.

A cheque of $5000 was handed over to FPRA in Suva on Friday.

FTA general secretary Peni Delaibatiki said the association was proud to support local talent.

FPRA president Seru Serevi said: “It’s all about empowering our youths as you know music is now a career path which is very important.”

Mr Serevi said preparation was going well leading to the awards, which takes place this Saturday.

One of the new categories this year is the Tom Mawi Guitar Award which has nine guitarists competing for this category.

The three artists who will be vying for the Best New Artist Award are Drixstar, Suliasi Uluilakeba and Senilagakali Kei Koroilagi.

The 2017 FPRA Music Awards will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on May 13.

Tickets can still be purchased from the FPRA head office at 66 McGregor Road in Suva.
