The Government is thankful for the partnership formed between Fiji and Japan through the improvement of bilateral relations and political engagements, says Minister for Defence Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

Ratu Inoke made the statement during the farewell of outgoing Japanese Ambassador, Takuji Hanatani, at Borron House in Suva last Friday.

He said Fiji was certainly mindful and greatly appreciated the enormous contribution the Japanese government provided adding that it was one of the many countries that assisted and continue to help Fiji immediately following Tropical Cyclone Winston.

“We are certainly grateful for the technical and developmental assistance provided by the government of Japan,” he said.

“We certainly are keen on exporting more of our Fijian rugby players to Japan if it may help you win the Hong Kong title in 7s rugby or even the World Cup,” he joked.
