Defending Vodafone Fiji FACT champions Jack’s Nadi suffered a setback as they prepare to kick start their defence campaign at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori on Friday.

This was after their top goalkeeper Vereti Dickson and experienced Ame Votoniu picked up injuries against Ba during the Vodafone Premier League clash and are yet to recover.

Team director Ashwant Singh said they are keeping their fingers crossed that the players recover in time for the tournament. He also said their senior players also cannot make it to their day training session because of work commitments.

“But so far the players are doing well during the training sessions,” he said.

“So for now our day session allows us to work with our new players.”  Singh confirmed Viliame Toma is also assisting coach Babs Khan with their preparations.

The Green Machine will see the return of rugged defender Ilimotama Jese after serving a six-match suspension.

Nadi open their 2017 Vodafone Fiji FACT campaign against traditional rivals Ba on Friday at 3pm.

Singh said expectations are high from the fans.

“At this stage we have a lot of young players in the team so our focus is more towards developing them. Ba is a very good team and they will come out strong. We will try our very best to retain the title.”

In another interesting encounter Suva face minnows Rakiraki in the opening match at 1pm, while Dreketi take on neighbours Labasa at 5.30pm before hosts Rewa battle Lautoka at 7.30pm.
