Business operators in Labasa Town are not taking any chances with Tropical Cyclone Ella moving closer to Fiji.

Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Satish Kumar said some have removed items from the ground and shelves and placed it on higher ground.

While all these preparations are taking place, business is operating as usual, Mr Kumar said.

“We have seen many people especially people from rural areas buying candles, cartoons of biscuits, batteries and basic food items.

“We have not issued notice to any operators about when to close their business because we are still monitoring the weather situation,” he said.

“And we want people to have access to services and buy what they need to prepare for their family.”

Mr Kumar said they are also praying that nothing happens in the North – especially with the crushing season just around the corner.
