The Suva rugby team will be making eight changes when they take on Namosi in the third round of the Skipper Cup competition on Saturday.

Head coach Saiasi Fuli said yesterday they have 40 players in the squad and each player would need to fight their way into the team each week.

“We introduced fourteen new players in our first game against Malolo and then five new players against Nadroga,” said the former Vodafone Flying Fijian halfback.

“There is likely going to be eight changes for the game this Saturday as we trust our players and also we want to improve on the depth in the squad. The aim for this season is to introduce good talented players playing in Suva but there will definitely be changes this weekend. Already some players are now fighting for a place to play against Namosi. The new boys in the squad have been doing well and putting their hands up to be in the final team at the end of each week.

“It is too early in the competition to predict how well we will do even though we have scored two wins so far. This competition is quite tough with eight teams and we face quality opposition every week.”

Fuli said Namosi is a great team but they are confident of playing quality rugby and hopefully come out as winners this weekend.

“There is a level of trust in the squad, we train hard every day as a team. Winning our first two games has definitely boosted the momentum in the team and the boys know they have a lot to prove. The morale amongst the squad is high and we are really looking forward to the game this Saturday.”

That match kickoff at 3pm at Thompson Park, Navua.
