Naduri villagers of Macuata are now more equipped to prepare themselves when a natural disaster strikes. This is after undergoing a two-day training programme.

The Hazard Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment training was organised the Save the Children Fiji.

Lanieta Vakavosega was one of the 40 selected for this training.

“We were told on what to do during a natural disaster and because of the changing weather patterns,” she said.

“I feel that this was a proactive move to help save lives during natural disasters.”

“One of the important things that we learnt is that we should take heed of warnings.

“We are to gather at a common location with the village headman taking charge before taking us to the evacuation centre.

“We see that people happen to take warnings lightly. But this should not be the case.”

Ratu Sikeli Nagagavoka said: “This is one of the first trainings on this here in the village and I think that it is very good.

“This is because we need to be prepared at all times. People need to understand that we need to take heed of warnings. It is a timely one as well for the parents to address these with their children and families.”
