It will be a proud moment for Mohammed Naizal when he takes the field for Rewa as he will be making his debut in the Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament which starts on Friday at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

The 17-year-old is the youngest player on the squad and says, he is not only excited about taking part in his first major tournament but playing alongside his mentor Iosefo Verevou.

“I’m pretty excited about the Fiji FACT, it is my first major tournament and I’m nervous but really looking forward to it,” Naizal said.

“I know I’m the youngest player in the squad but I have a lot of experienced players in this team to learn from. All the players have been helping me out during training sessions and I have learnt a lot from them.

“I think playing alongside the national reps will help be a better player on the field because I have them continuously encouraging me. I’m also excited to play my first major tournament with my mentor Iosefo. I really did not believe that I would be playing in the same team as him. Being the youngest, I have a lot to prove and I want to prove my worth in this squad and make sure that the coach did not make a mistake in picking me to be part of it.”

Rewa head coach Marika Rodu said they want to use the Fiji FACT as a way to build the team up to as they try to get back to their winning ways.

“It’s evident that there is a lot of players attending training and are looking forward to the first tournament of the year. Since our outing in the OFC Champions League we still have not found our foot on the ground yet. We lost our games to Lautoka and Suva and drew with Ba, so there are still a lot of things to work on. We see Fiji FACT as a good platform to get back into the swing of things and I can say we are ready for the competition.”

Rewa face Lautoka in their first match on Friday at 7:30pm.
