The Vuata Naresia-coached Nadi Army Rugby (Delta Company) side signed a three year lucrative deal with major sponsor MEL Creation Limited, a new apparel company in Nadi yesterday.

The two parties signed a deal for a three year term beginning with a $10,000 per season this year.

MEL Company Limited director Avi Chaudhary said their business was to not only to make a profit, but to also engage the community.

“We have been eyeing some teams including Nadi Army for some time now. We found out that this team needed a catalyst after all the grand performances in the NRU competition so far.

“The sponsorship is roughly about $10,000 per annum and it is a three year sponsorship where we will sponsor the team in their internal RFMF competition and likewise their external competition like the Nadi Rugby Union competition.”

The company will provide the kit and incentives of the team during this period. Team manager Joseva Qoro thanked the company on behalf of the camp.

“We have been looking for sponsors for the past few years and we are thankful for the company to come on board,” he said.

“This team is not only made up of soldiers as there are civilians as well. Some have really done well in the likes of Semi Kunatani who have come out from this team.

“We will try our level best in all tournaments we take part in. We are thankful that they are sponsoring us in every tournament that we will take part in whether it’s here or outside.”

This gesture has boosted the team’s morale as they are the final challenger in the RFMF Bougainville Championship on May 31 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

“We also have our competitions within the RFMF as we will host the Bougainville Challenge which is our very own Farebrother Challenge,” he said.

The side last won the Bougainville Challenge in 2013, but failed to retain the following year.
