The Fiji National University will return to the global standard of semester model for its academic year.

From February next year, the semester model will be implemented for the new enrolees.

Fiji National University, Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Healey whilst confirming the change said this was a result of a number of problems currently faced with the trimester model.

He assured that this change from trimester to semester will not affect current trimester based programmes and students.

“We will begin offering Year 1 of the current trimester-based programmes in semester mode from February 2018,” Professor Healey said.

“All existing students on trimester-based programmes will complete their programmes on the trimester mode, so no existing students will be affected by the change.”

He said that the University had been discussing the optimal structure of its academic year for some time.

“There are a number of problems with the trimester model, which has led the University to conclude that it would be better to return to the global standard,” he said.
