Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday received a $30,000 cheque donation from the Suva Retailers Association (SRA).

Also a total of $70,495 in donations from the township festival committees of the Hibiscus, Tebara, Sinu, Coral Coast and Riverside carnivals. The funds are towards the Prime Minister’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.

The donations were presented by the Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala on behalf of the SRA and festival committees.

The Prime Minister thanked the SRA and festival committees for their collective donations to assist Fijians affected by Cyclone Winston.

“We are still working hard to build back better from the devastation wrought by Cyclone Winston last year.

“Our recovery efforts have not only been about reclaiming what we lost to the storm, but rebuilding to a higher, more resilient standard in anticipation of the severe weather events we know are headed our way.

“We are grateful for these donations, which will be put to immediate use in our rehabilitation efforts,” he said.
