The Mitieli Narukutabua coached Rukua 7s team is up for a mission at the 30th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi which gets underway today.

Team manager Marika Mocelutu said the side is made up of players from the village of Rukua in the island of Beqa.

“This will be our fourth tournament this year as these boys will be carrying the hopes of the village,” he said.

The side is in pool 7 with Tokatoka Westfield Dragons, Dratabu and Butoni Hurricanes.

“This is a way to expose them in bigger tournaments and grounds to develop them.

“We spent over $5000 to foot the bills like boat fares, food rations, travelling and camping.”

The side is coached by former Naitasiri Bulls and Ratu Kadavulevu School coach Manasa Radrotini and former Fiji Schoolboys (2012) and Lelean Memorial School playmaker Sekove Lili will be a player to watch during the two day 7s fiesta.

Other teams gunning for glory are Army Green, Army Red, Tabadamu, First Light Taveuni I and II, Taveuni, Newnet Yasawa, and Ratu Filise.

Tournament organiser Jeff Tamata confirmed 64 men’s team will be participating alongside the Oldies and the Under 19 category.

Defending champions Army Red is in pool 1 with International Red Rock I, Mosi Steelers, and Silverwater Barbarians featuring former 7s speedsters during their prime years Rupeni Caucau and William Ryder.
