The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will now overlook the repair works of the State House fence along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva.

Official secretary to the Office of the President, Pene Baleinabuli said this during his submissions on the 2015 Auditor-General Report before the Public Accounts Committee at Parliament yesterday.

He was responding to a comment by SODELPA MP Ratu Sela Nanovo on the state of the fence which was now covered by a tarpaulin.

Mr Baleinabuli said it placed the Head of State under ‘a very embarrassing situation’.

However the repairs were now being transferred to the ministry mentioned.

“Local engineers from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure would be fully engaged to see that repair works was carried out with quality building materials,” he said.

Just last year they again sought funds to repair the fence.

“Honourable Members of the Committee, like you we are also in a very embarrassing situation,” Mr Baleinabuli responded.
