WHY The RFMF Handles OPM Capital Projects

The Office of the Prime Minister clarified before the Public Accounts Committee yesterday why the Republic of Fiji Military Forces was the preferred choice for their capital projects in 2015.

This was after SODELPA MP Aseri Radrodro questioned whether they were still considering RFMF to handle future projects.

In response, Office of the Prime Minister director corporate services Moape Rokosuka said the projects were given to the RFMF because they required immediate implementation.

“In terms of the waiver of  tender, most of the projects that we have implemented whereby the RFMF has been recruited, was done on that basis where the tender process have been waived because of the need on the ground.”

More recently, he said private companies hardly showed any interest when the Office of the Prime Minister advertised projects for tender.

“We are lucky if can get two companies to tender for the project. That is why we have been going back to the RFMF to assist us as we know now we are in dire need of construction of schools and houses,” Mr Rokosuka said.

The RFMF, he said was always on standby and ready to assist.
