Disgruntled Coach Calls For Fair Play

The Werelevu Knights rugby sevens team are seeking answers from the officials of the Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens tournament after they were not allowed to participate.

Coach Joseva Kurucake claimed that they received a last minute call on Monday stating that they would not be participating.

He said they were surprised and saddened not to be part the tournament.

“We had paid our registration fee last month,” Kurucake said.

“We contacted the officials seeking an explanation on why they had to do this to us.”

Kurucake said words they received from the organisers were that they were fielding three players that were not supposed to play for them.

“I told them that the players are from Nawaka village but still they refused.”

Nawaka Rugby Union president Jioji Kinisi said they had given them ample time after informing them about their decision.

“For the record these guys were told two and a half weeks ago. We explained to them why we were going to cancel their application.

“I also told them the grounds on which we accept and cancel teams that have applied. We have been very fair on all teams.”

Kinisi said the matter was an internal one and it is not for the media.

“It’s something I have settled with them,” he added.
