Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama leaves for China today to attend the Belt and Road Forum.

He was to have left yesterday for China, but delayed his departure because of Cyclone Ella.

From China he will travel to Bonn, Germany, to attend a COP23 meeting.

The two-day forum in Beijing is Chinese President Xi Jinping’s signature foreign policy project, the Belt and Road Initiative.

At least 29 heads of state and governments are expected to attend.

1500 delegates from 130 countries will attend.

Among those are: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, president of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim, and managing-director of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde.

The forum aims to explore ways to address problems facing global and regional economies, create fresh energy for pursuing interconnected development and make the Belt and Road initiative deliver greater benefits to the people of all countries.

The Forum will be from May 14 to May 15.
