The Isimeli Kurusavulevu-coached Nadroga Knights rugby league team received $5000 from traditional sponsor, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort at the Coral Coast on Friday.

The four-year partnership is targeted to produce or unearth talented players in the province.

General manager Peter Hopgood said they cherish their partnership with the community.

He said the goal was to be the number one rugby league team and to develop players so that one day they can represent the Vodafone Fijian Bati side.

“We start with local competition, then national and we want to get our players to the National Rugby League (NRL) competition in Australia,” he said.

He added the team exceeded expectation achieving their five-year plan within three years.

This is in line with former Kangaroo and Fiji Bati skipper Petero Civoniceva’s vision for Fiji’s participation in the New South Wales Cup competition.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity for everybody. Outrigger is excited for you and it always difficult to start off.

“Hope that our sponsorship helps you a little bit more.”

The team did well in the first two years and entered in the Vodafone playoff last year.

Team manager Iliesa Ratuva thanked the Outrigger family for their continued participation.

“The boys are blessed going into the fourth year, big hearty thanks to Outrigger for renewing their partnership,” he said.

“It also gives us the challenge to meet the stakeholders and supporters expectation.

“Big thank you to Kini Sarai (former Nadroga and Flying Fijian fullback).”

The team is captained by promising John Koroi who plays at centre.
