Raj Responds: NFP Leader Using Media Decree To Cloud Issues
Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission director Ashwin Raj

Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission director Ashwin Raj says National Federation Party leader Biman Prasad is using the Media Decree to cloud the real issues of ordinary Fijians.

Mr Prasad in his recent statement claimed that the real issue in the country was the Media Decree and the what he claimed is the ineffectiveness of Media Industry Development Authority.

Mr Raj is also the Authority’s chairperson.

In response, Mr Raj replied this statement was quite frankly an oxymoron.

“Precisely because he has had unfettered access to the media to publicise his claims and misguided statements and his most recent statement is testament to that,” Mr Raj said.

Mr Raj said Mr Prasad was once again conveniently using the Media Decree to confuse the real issues that ordinary Fijians were faced with.

He said instead Mr Prasad should help address the real issues of the people such as alleviation of poverty and access and equity to services rather than calling for resignation of public office holders and walking out of Parliament.

This, he said, sadly seems to be Mr Prasad’s only political legacy.
